WRVHS Students from Chelsea Volunteer

On Thursday, October 20th, three WRVHS students helped the Town of Chelsea and the Chelsea Public Library remove countless items from the balcony in the Chelsea Town Hall. Kasey Peterson is leading the effort to revitalize the balcony for public use after years of it being closed.

Most recently, the balcony was used to store books for the Public Library’s book sale fundraiser, which takes place every year on the second Saturday in July, the same date of the annual flea market. Additionally, approximately thirty backdrops from drama productions were removed and placed on the stage for examination by a historian.

The backdrops have the signatures of past actors, including the late Hoyt Battey, whose signature dates from 1947. The earliest backdrop was from the late 19th century.

The Town of Chelsea encourages community members to reach out if they would like to view the backdrops or take pictures. The Chelsea Historical Society will likely digitally preserve the backdrops, or store them for viewing at the Historical Society building.

Bailey Boardman, Alex Kennison, and Jacklynn Showerman, all former Red Devils, spent two hours relocating the backdrops.
